Coastal Explorer 1.1 now includes over 1,000 charts and complete US Chart coverage!

Kirkland, WA - October 25, 2005: An electronic charting software first! Rose Point Navigation Systems, LLC today announced that raster charts will be included with version 1.1 Coastal Explorer™ PC-Navigation software. It is the first program to include the entire NOAA chart collection covering all US waters. Coastal Explorer is a full featured program that contains all the elements you would expect in a full featured navigation program plus a lot more, including; Predicted tide heights and tidal currents, text weather support, graphic weather overlay, GPS Route and Waypoint transfer, integrated gazetteer and Coast Pilot.

The $399.00 suggested retail price, which includes the charts, dramatically reduces the cost of ownership and simplifies installation. In the past boaters often spent more money on charts than software. This is no longer the case because now all the charts are included. The software includes 500 NOAA ENC's, approximately 250 Vector Coastal Explorer Charts, and approximately 250 NOAA Raster Charts. In June of this year NOAA announced that the raster charts will become freely available. Coastal Explorer is the first product to offer the new NOAA raster charts with the software.

"In the past customers were often left wondering if they needed to purchase additional charts" said Brad Christian, President of Rose Point Navigation. "Now they can make one purchase and know that they are getting all the charts they need. We prefer vector charts over raster charts because Coastal Explorer takes full advantage of the vector format. It reports various hazards on or near a user created route; this is not possible on Raster charts. Unfortunately NOAA has not yet completed all of the S57 charts. We have completed the portfolio using as many vector charts as possible with the Coastal Explorer charts (which are derived from NOAA charts) and in the few places we are missing with the new raster charts"

The raster charts will be distributed with the new Coastal Explorer software. Existing customer can download the charts from the CoastalExplorer.net website.
